Chloramphenicol stops growth of bacteria by stopping the bacteria from producing essential proteins. These proteins are necessary for the bacteria to reproduce. Using Chloramphenicol stops the bacteria from multiplying which allows the immune system to kill off all of the remaining bacteria.
